This small, 700 sq.ft. house is located in Nagothane village in Maharashtra, an ancestral house of Lokesh Karekar. He is a prominent illustrator and founder of ‘Locopopo’ studio based in Mumbai. Lokesh is known for his minimal style of illustrations with its simplicity of form, composition and use of colour.

The functional design was the core idea behind re-designing and giving the house its new look.

The terrace of the house can be accessed by a wooden ladder built against a cement finish wall, which is an unique feature of the design.

The bright orange colour adds a vibrant character to the front yard and its high compound wall provides privacy from the adjoining narrow and crowded lane.

There is a local fish market nearby to get the fresh catch of the day. Being a foodie and avid cook, Lokesh never misses any chance to visit his place in Nagothane.
